Sirs,
I note the comments made by Councillors Fogg and Hall but agree with Ian Mellor that surely the Town Council will reflect on the many responses the Steering group will receive from the Public Consultation, mine amongst them.
Marlborough is a truly wonderful market town and will continue to be enjoyed by residents, tourists and visitors alike.
The need for affordable housing is vital and via the existing planned new builds there will be many coming to the market.
However, where I disagree is that car journeys and pollution will rise. I believe the opposite as the Covid pandemic will surely alter the way people work in the future, not always from home but maybe for one or two days a week.
We may lose some retail that might be ideal for conversion to residential, we are bound to take some economic hit.
The proposed new rail station outside Devizes will give all our residents different options for travel.
Car parking is always a problem on certain days and at certain times, but the solution is attracting locals to come to Marlborough at different off-peak times (visit Cirencester after 3p.m. and you park for free!!)
I await with great interest the finalised Neighbourhood Plan.
Yours,
Colin Gratton
