Katharine House Gallery in The Parade, Marlborough is looking for a highly organised, confident and trustworthy Gallery Assistant to assist the Director in the day to day running of the business. Often being the first point of contact for visitors to the Gallery, the right candidate needs to demonstrate a professional, friendly and polite manner. The role involves a degree of manual handling and the right candidate should be prepared to work alone from time to time.
Initially this is a 9 month fixed term part-time contract (with the possibility of extension).
Start date: December 2022 (date to be agreed for training to take place)
End date: 30 September 2023.
Hours: 18 ¾ hours a week. Wednesday to Friday. 10am – 5.30pm
(Lunch from 1pm – 2.15pm).
Salary: Starting at £15 per hour (£14,625 pa). This will be reviewed after 1 months probationary period.
Holidays: 14 days paid holiday for the duration of the fixed term (inclusive of Bank Holidays)
Pension: There is a workplace pension scheme.

Key responsibilities:
- Assisting clients with enquiries face to face, over the telephone and by email.
- Managing the Gallery inbox.
- Typing of correspondence.
- Managing contact & mailing lists, maintaining all stock lists, assisting with the production of exhibition catalogues.
- Updating the Gallery website.
- Recording sales and purchases.
- Processing sales, handling cash and card payments.
- Preparing invoices and receipts, ensuring all payments are received and recorded.
- Assisting accountant with HMRC submissions.
- Managing the day to day running of the Gallery e.g. ordering supplies, managing utilities, ensuring industry regulations are complied with, etc.
- Handling fragile artwork.
Requirements:
The role demands that the suitable candidate will already be used to working with Mac operating systems and have an advanced knowledge of Word and at least a basic knowledge of Excel.
A good command of written and spoken English, good numeracy skills and have an excellent telephone manner.
Fast accurate typing skills.
Previous administrative experience.
Have the ability to prioritise effectively and manage own workload.
Be willing to learning new IT and other skills.
Previous office management experience is desirable.
A knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Xero is desirable, but training can be provided.
Audio-typing experience is desirable.
An interest in art is desirable.
