Marlborough Youth U18’s claimed a semi-final place in the Wiltshire Youth Cup on Sunday in a tense and exciting quarter final away at Warminster. 4-1 down after 35 minutes it looked like the Marlborough lads would suffer their first defeat of the season.
However, thanks to a great headed goal by Jacob Gumm just before half time they went into the break just 2 goals down. A gritty second half performance saw them pull the game back to 4-4 and go into extra time, and on to win 5-4 thanks to a James Handley goal.
An action packed game saw 2 penalties for Warminster, one converted and one saved superbly by the outstanding Ben Drewett, who went on to make 5 or 6 great saves, and kept Marlborough in the match. James Handley scored a hat trick, his second in the cup run, all taken well. Elliot Smith also scored at the back post and Marlborough missed 4-5 good chances through the game.
Marlborough Youth U18’s remain unbeaten this season and go through to the county cup semi-finals. They are top of Division 2 of the North Wilts League with 6 games to go.”
