The ‘Marlborough Foxes’ – Marlborough Youth Football Club’s U11 Girls Team have made it through to final of the Wiltshire U11 Girls League Cup to be played at the Oakfields Ground in Melksham on Sunday 6 May.
The Foxes’ season has been going from strength to strength and they have created a superb cup run culminating in their recent semi-final victory over Melksham Black U11 Girls, who had beaten the Foxes twice in the league earlier in the season..
Their semi-final was a very close match and even after going behind by 1-2 they fought back and managed to draw level 3-3 at full time, then survive the frantic period of extra time before keeping their cool and triumphing by 4-2 in the eventual penalty shoot-out.
Parents, coaches and players were on tenterhooks throughout but over the moon with excitement by the end of the shoot-out at the excellent result. ”A really talented group and they showed fantastic character to come from 2-1 down and win on penalties” said Becky Knox, who along with Alana Turner manages and coaches the team.
Stu Slater, Chair of MYFC said ”The final will be a tough match but we have every hope that the girls will come home with the silverware. Many congratulations to Becky, Alana and all Foxes!”
The U11 Foxes are part of the girls’ section of Marlborough Youth FC, which is known as the Marlborough Angels and now have over 70 girls playing regularly from Year 2 (U7) up to Year 8 (U13). For further information, contact chair@myfc.me.uk
