Marlborough Youth FC added an international dimension to their game last Wednesday, 25 July, when a six-a-side tournament was held featuring seventeen Japanese students from Tokai, Nagoya and thirty-one MYFC players from the U14 and U15 teams.
The Tokai students are on a cultural visit to the UK and also attending Marlborough Summer School.
To ensure that it was a fair tournament the sides were split into 2 x U14, 2 x U15 and 2 x Japanese students, with each team taking on a Club name.
The matches were played in a similar way to the group stages of the World Cup, with the highest points scoring teams taking part in a Final.
One of the students from the winning team collected a trophy, which will form a permanent reminder of the event.
There was a fantastic friendly atmosphere during the whole afternoon, and both the Club and the students travelling party considered it a resounding success.
It was an amazing turnout of players and could possibly be a regular end of season International fixture in seasons to come.
