Marlborough’s 2015 league campaign took an unexpected turn this week as Tom Jacques announced he will unfortunately be standing down as 1st team captain with immediate effect.
Jacques, who has been with the club since the start of the 2014 season has been a tremendous asset to the club both as a player and captain. Unfortunately due to work relocation he will be returning to his home in Lancashire.
Club Chairman Simon Wells said. “In the short time Tom has been at Marlborough he has made a tremendous contribution to the development of the club both on and off the field. On behalf of everyone at Marlborough Cricket Club I would like to thank him for all the hard work he has done and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
Wells then turning to Jacques’ replacement said. “I am very pleased to announce that Arran Dickinson has agreed to take over the 1st team captaincy. Arran, who scored a superb hundred against Westbury in the first league match of the season just weeks after his return to the club, and will be looking to build on the strong foundations already laid down by Tom and overseas vice-captain, Bradley Frost. I would like to wish Arran every success in his new position and look forward to seeing the whole club and team rally behind him.”
Marlborough entertain Devizes at home this Saturday in an early season’s top of the table clash as the divisions 3rd and 4th placed teams go head to head. Marlborough name an unchanged team from the one that secured a 139 run win against Marshfield last weekend.
Dickinson ahead of the game thinks this week’s game will be a stern test for his side and a good win would firmly set out Marlborough’s intent for the season and their title aspirations. “I know we have the players this year to be very successful and I hope with the team’s support we can take this club to a higher level of cricket in the coming years.”
