West Of England Premier League (Wilts Division)
Trowbridge v Marlborough 15th August 2015
Marlborough 108 all out; Trowbridge 109-1
Trowbridge won by 9 wickets
Marlborough’s title aspirations for this season were finally extinguished at Trowbridge on Saturday as they succumbed to a comprehensive nine wicket defeat.
Marlborough Captain Arran Dickinson, whilst disappointed by the result, remained upbeat about Marlborough’s season to date and the clubs long term prospects and goals.
“We can have no complaints about today’s result and assuming Trowbridge go on to win the title from here they will be worthy winners. They’ve beaten us easily today and have now done the double over us this season and with only losing three games so far this seasons they fully deserve to be champions.”
Dickinson went on to say how pleased he was with the Clubs performance this season.
“At the start of the season we set our goal for a top three finish and if we win our remaining two games we will achieve this. Whilst everyone is very down about today’s result and the manner in which we lost the boys should be very proud of what we have achieved and the way in which we have competed and played this season.”
Marlborough won the toss and elected to bat first despite what looked a damp wicket and were soon in trouble with the loss of Mark Wingfield-Digby and Dickinson with only 9 runs on the scoreboard. The Marlborough middle order then showed a brief period of resistance putting on 68 runs between Ben Head (22), Peter Day (24), James Richardson (13) and George Penfold (21) on what looked a tricky wicket before the complete Marlborough batting collapse for 108 off 43 overs.
The Trowbridge openers in response had no such problems with the wicket and openers Tom Oakley and Mike Reynolds very quickly put on a partnership of 78 without any difficulty before Oakley was bowled by Head for 32. Reynolds and Andrea Agathangelou saw Trowbridge home to a comprehensive victory without further loss. Reynolds finished on 57 not out off 99 balls.
