Marlborough entertain Marshfield at the Savernake Forest ground this Saturday and will be looking for their first win of the season following the narrow defeat at Westbury last weekend.
First team coaches Brad Frost and Tony Dickinson are not too down hearted at last week’s loss. Frost thinks there was plenty of positive things to take away from the defeat.
“We recovered from a terrible start. To find ourselves 2 for 2 in the second over could have led to a complete collapse in our opening game but Tom and Arran (Jacques and Dickinson) batted with great determination and responsibility and once they had rebuilt the innings the rest of the batsmen batted around Arran and we posted a very respectable total. I think we need to be a bit sharper on the bowling front and may need to be a little quicker to respond to events on the field but overall I thought it was not a bad performance by the team as a whole.”
The fixture list has not been the kindest to Marlborough which sees them play Westbury, Marshfield and Purton in the opening 4 weeks. Dickinson thinks it could hardly have been a harder start for the Forest outfit.
“I have no doubt Westbury are the title favourites this year and to start away from home to them was not an easy task. To have Marshfield second up, albeit at home followed by an away trip to Purton in a fortnight’s time both of them being title contenders, is a very difficult start but I am confident that we can bounce back with a win this weekend.”
Marlborough name a full strength side for this weekend’s game with the return of opening batsman Tom Palmer who recently scored 153 in a preseason game but was unavailable for the season’s opener. George Penfold will also return from university this week to reclaim the gloves from last week’s stand in Joe Arkwright.
