It may be nearly ten months away and lockdown is still with us (to some degree) but Jo Waltham and Kymee Cleasby have been announced as the Lib Dem candidates for the two Marlborough Divisions – East and West respectively.
This isn’t something unfamiliar to Jo. She was runner-up for the Lib Dems to Danny Kruger in last December’s General Election, but this is coming a bit closer to home as Jo is Marlborough-based running a web design company.
For Kymee Cleasby this is something altogether new, a relative newcomer to the town, but who has already thrown herself into serving in the community and introducing the Sunflower Beanies community project for children across the town during lockdown. “I really love living in Marlborough and indeed Wiltshire, I have made so many friends already and look forward to serving the community in any way I can. I have a special interest in housing and social care, two subjects which have been adversely affected during the pandemic and will need close attention”
Whilst Jo’s previous candidacy was National, her belief is that the core of democracy is local: “Most of the services that directly impact our daily lives are in the remit of the local council – housing, social care, youth services, provision of special education, waste collection to name just a few. I’m delighted to have been selected to stand for Marlborough East.”
Both Jo and Kymee have been part of the Marlborough Town Council Covid Volunteer team programme, helping with many others to support our most vulnerable during the pandemic. They are looking forward to talking to as many Marlborough residents as possible, as soon as lockdown allows.
They can be contacted via the Marlborough Liberal Democrats Facebook page – or by email at: jowaltham@devizeslibdems.org.uk or kymeecleasby@devizeslibdems.org.uk
