The Town Council has just announced a vacancy in the West Ward for the town, and this is alongside the vacancy in the East Ward that was recently announced. So whichever side of Marlborough you feel most affiliated to, the opportunity to become their representative on the Town Council is open.
Different dates and processes are being employed to fill the two vacancies.
The East Ward vacancy is to be filled by ‘co-option’, a process whereby Councillors decide their new fellow member of the Council. To apply, you will need to download and complete an application form and send that back to the Town Clerk or Deputy Town Clerk by no later than 4pm on Friday 1 September.
Councillors will then interview candidates and select who they feel is best to join them on the Council. If just one individual applies, then – assuming the qualifying criteria are met – they will be elected without the co-option interview process.
If you wish to represent those in the West Ward of Marlborough, that process will be (at present) by an election. Click here to view and download the ‘Notice of Election’ for West. Nomination papers must be ‘hand delivered’ to the Returning Officer, or an appointed member of his staff, at the Wiltshire Council office in Chippenham. See the Notice for details. Deadline for receipt of nomination papers is Thursday 10 August at 4pm.
So just what many of you have always wanted – to represent your peers in your Marlborough community as their voice on the Town Council.
