Despite dull skies and the threat of rain, nearly 200 visitors enjoyed a stroll around the eleven very different Marlborough gardens which opened to the public on Sunday.
Several gardens had red white and blue planting schemes, and bunting and Union Jacks were much in evidence in honour of the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
“To mark Her Majesty’s jubilee, each garden owner who opened will receive a set of photographs of all the gardens with a forward by the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Edwina Fogg,” Clyde Nancarrow, chairman of the Open Gardens Committee, told Marlborough News Online.
Tea and cake for weary garden visitors was organised by the Nancarrow family, and the trustees of The Merchant’s House have offered their thanks to them, and all those taking part for their hard work ensuring their gardens were immaculate.
The proceeds from the event, nearly £1,200, will go to The Merchant’s House appeal.
The trustees have also extended their sincere thanks to Brewin Dolphin who once again sponsored Open Gardens event.
