When James Lilley responded to a phone call to collect some parcels for his firm little did he know he was going to turn into Santa’s little helper. If you have had to wait a little longer than normal for your Amazon order this week, then read on.
A sack full of Amazon parcels was found abandoned near Avebury. However, thanks to the public mindedness, kindness and generosity of James Lilley, who works in Ogbourne, all the parcels have now reached their correct destination.
James explained: “ I was contacted by a lady who lives near Avebury. She had found the sack and couldn’t get anyone from Amazon to collect it. At least twenty of the parcels were addressed to the firm I work for so I went and collected the whole sack. There were enough to fill a car boot and after yesterday’s rain they were quite wet !”
After removing his firm’s parcels, James was left with at least another twenty. He advertised this on the social media and received over 120 messages. He also delivered most of the parcels himself to the rightful recipients.
“One man thought I was from Amazon and thought the parcel should have come earlier. It was pouring with rain so I didn’t have time to explain what had happened,” commented James.
Amazon contacted James and are conducting an investigation into how this sack ended up abandoned and all the parcels undelivered, and in recognition will be sending him a hamper to say thanks.
People are very grateful. In the words of one message on Facebook, “This is awesome, such honesty.”
But James told marlborough.news, “I haven’t really done much though.” Many would disagree.
