Christmas in January, pyjama day, mad hair day, Superhero day and fancy dressed day are just some of the themes for Fridays for all the staff and children at Kennet Valley C of E VA Primary School. Everyone can join in the fun whether they are working at home or at school.
Year 6 teacher, Miss Chalker, who is behind the themed Fridays fun, wanted the children to have something to look forward to and something to bring them all together. She said, “At Kennet Valley we have a strong family ethos and I wanted to create a connection between the children at school and those at home. We wanted to add more fun to our children’s lives during these tricky times.”
Themed Fridays started yesterday, Friday January 15th with a pyjama day. Throughout the day children uploaded pictures of themselves working in their PJs. They also showed off their PJs when they took part in their live daily check in with their class teachers.
As with other schools, Kennet Valley have extended and improved their remote learning provision since the last lockdown. Children have a live daily check in with their class teacher or teaching assistant via Teams, watch pre-recorded films from staff to aid with their learning and access websites such as White Rose, National Oak Academy or the BBC Learning zone.
Staff also read stories for the children to listen to at home. Learning packs are sent home via Seesaw, a classroom app. Once work is completed children upload their work to return it for feedback and marking.
Emma Russell, Headteacher, said, “Although the school is currently apart from each other the staff work exceptionally hard to ensure that we reach out to all of our families. The theme days are designed to ensure that children still feel part of the Kennet Valley family. We miss all of the children who are working from home, but speak to them daily to make sure that they know how important they are to our school. I can’t wait for Mad Hair Day next week!”
