Marlborough became just that bit cleaner on Friday last week (22 March) after the first of the four ‘Litter Pick’ sessions organised by the Town Council as part of the Great British Spring Clean initiative.
Local residents, representatives from Rick Stein, the newly formed Youth Council, local Police, Marlborough in Bloom and the Town Council all turned up to help.
Sporting hi-vis jackets and with litter pick stricks at the ready the willing volunteers tackled the High Street, Priory Gardens, Cooper’s Meadow, George Lane Car Park and other problem areas, before meeting up with volunteers from ARK who were doing a similar job on the banks of the River Kennet.
A cup of tea and slice of cake back at the Town Hall rounded off a very enjoyable and satisfying session.
The second Litter Pick took place on Wednesday 27 March and cleaned up the Barton Park area. The next is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 30 March at Rabley Wood, everyone taking part is to meet in the Play Area at 1pm. The fourth and final event will cover St Margarets Mead on Sunday April 7 with everyone meeting in the Community and Youth Centre in the Rec.
As the judging for the Marlborough entry for South West in Bloom gets closer there will be more clean-up events taking place so that the town can look in pristine condition for the judges. Volunteers will be welcomed and further details will be published on marlborough.news.
