They were taking away the recycling containers for cans, glass, plastics and cardboard from the George Lane mini recycling centre on Wednesday (11 May.)
It has been closed by Wiltshire Council because they have now opened the fully equipped recycling centre in the Business Park on the Salisbury Road.
But the closure will seriously disadvantage those who cannot easily reach the Salisbury Road centre – or the only other mini recycling centre at Marlborough Town Football Club in Elcot Lane. And the enhanced kerbside recycling collections which will include plastics, are not scheduled to start until November.
Wiltshire councillor Nicholas Fogg has been campaigning to keep the George Lane centre open. He called the decision to close it ‘inexplicable’ and intends to raise it again with council officials.
