‘Mozart’s Requiem’, performed by The Stand Sure Orchestra and Choir on Saturday November 13, was a sell-out success. This debut concert for the Pewsey based orchestra brought together over 40 musicians under the baton of Musical Director, Chris Anderson. The orchestra and choir were formed just eight weeks ago.
Chris told Marlborough.news, “It’s been my dream for nearly thirty years to have my own orchestra and choir to perform Mozart’s Requiem and the fact that so many people came along to support it has been amazing. I did not expect such a success.
Following the trying times of Covid and coupled with the Royal British Legion commemorating 100 years of service it felt a fitting piece to perform in memory of those who passed away throughout the pandemic and also as a remembrance for our Armed Forces past and present.
I’m so proud to be bringing music to life in this way in such a great village. I feel like an honorary Pewseyan!”
Held on the eve of Remembrance Day, the concert began with a two-minute silence and ended with encores of Mozart’s ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ and the Overture to ‘The Magic Flute.’
As the final thunderous applause died away a very young member of the audience could be heard to say very clearly – ‘That was amazing!’ which echoed the thoughts of those present.
Following the concert many showed their appreciation on social media. Mike Reeve said, “It was fantastic. Truly moving after the last two years plus Remembrance Day. Does it get any better?”
Elaine Shannon said, “A fabulous evening. Thank you to all involved. The first of many concerts we hope.”
