The sign used to announce to all and sundry as they passed by that the building widely known around the town and by several generations as ‘The Youth Centre’ was a “Development Centre for Young People”.
With Wiltshire Council’s cuts to their funding of the county’s youth services, the future of the building is – to say the very least – uncertain.
However, Wiltshire Council staff have been to the building and removed the sign. It is now not only a matter of headlines, meetings and petitions: the building is no longer Marlborough’s ‘Youth Centre’.
The Council could not very well put up a sign saying “This building is no longer the town’s Youth Centre” – but that’s what it meant when they took the sign down.
The remaining Wiltshire Council ‘Network’ sign relates to the continued use of the building by adults with learning difficulties.
