SENBOX, a small local organisation, in the throes of gaining charitable status and there to deliver ‘a little library of equipment’ to Primary and Junior Schools in the area which will help children with their reading and writing was this morning presented with a cheque for £1,000 by Tesco Marlborough’s Community Champion, Amber.
SENBOX is the brainchild of Marlborough’s Jo Barnes. It’s not her ‘day job’, that’s being a Professor of imaging Neuroscience at UCL. But it’s her ‘local job’ and inspired by seeing what can help children to develop their reading and writing skills with what Jo describes as a ‘library of equipment’ that the schools don’t necessarily have.
Jo was very keen to thank Tesco and their ‘Blue Token’ scheme. “It’s hard to get going and the Tesco scheme gives people a chance to get money for small projects and causes. It’s also bought attention to SENBOX – we were approached by Marlborough Tennis who had money from this scheme and who are developing their work with schools. Taken together this will help build a more supportive community around young people.”
Although not a registered charity, yet, the aim is to gain charitable status which, if for no other reason would enable all the contents of the SENBOX ‘library’ to be purchased without having to pay the VAT.
