Monday’s meeting of the full Town Council in the Town Hall may well be busier than normal. One of the issues up for discussion (see ‘Item 6’ on Page 10 the Agenda for the meeting) will be the possibility of Forestry England (the management arm of the Forestry Commission) closing Savernake Forest to vehicular access.
Marlborough.news ran this story on 25 March having a couple of weeks beforehand run a piece about Forestry England’s ‘Our Shared Forest’, a project to reshape and redirect their sustainable management of Savernake Forest.
Alongside their ‘Our Shared Forest’ Land Management Plan there was also an ‘internal discussion document’ entitled ‘Savernake Forest A Way Forward’ that set out the possibility of redeveloping the Postern Hill car park (possibly making it a paying car park, with ANPR [Automatic Number Plate Recognition]), and then closing Grand Avenue to cars, installing automatic barriers. This is now accessible to all and can be viewed via the above link.
