Burbage Primary School’s new library project received a boost when the PTA funded 40 new books for each year group in the school. A representative group of pupils visited The White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough to collect the books. The school also celebrated reading and the power of stories with a visit from M and M Theatre Company who performed The Jungle Book to the whole school.
Zoe Garbutt, Principal, said, “We are passionate about reading at Burbage. Becoming a good reader is essential in educational terms. It also opens so many doors into exciting worlds that would otherwise be unknown. A love of stories, non-fiction and poetry can bring such joy and sometimes some much-needed escapism to other places which can positively impact wellbeing and personal development. It was with this in mind that we invited a theatre company in to share their production of The Jungle Book last week which was held in our school hall. It was universally enjoyed across our school.
The next stage of our reading project has been funded by our amazing PTA who have enabled us to buy 40 brand new books for each year group to enjoy. At the end of term, we took some of our children to collect the books from The White Horse Bookshop who have been brilliant at sourcing and suggesting books for our new reading spine.
Meanwhile we have launched an Amazon wish list of books which we are hoping to add to our library. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our parents who have bought books from our list. If anyone would like to support this initiative, the ‘Books for Burbage’ list is on our school website or click here.”
The new school library, a warm, inviting and cosy space with all the very best, most up to date books, will be opened in September.
