Rare, genuine and sought-after ABBA memorabilia will be auctioned to the highest bidders next Friday (15 March) night at the Abba Tribute Night being organised by the Marlborough & District Lions.
‘An Abba extravaganza’ was how Friday’s event was described as Abba’s Angels, one of the UK’s most popular Abba tribute bands will be bringing all of Abba’s many iconic hits to life.
There are two postcard sized pics, one of Frida and signed by her, one of the band and signed by all, a larger black & white pic – a classic Abba photo from their heyday and signed by the four band members and a CD signed by Benni and Bjorn.
How did the Lions manage to get hold of such rare memorabilia? Sue Lampard, committee member for Marlborough & District Lions explained that it was through a personal contact: Frida is married to the brother of a friend who lives locally and when they asked if Abba could provide some items for the auction, and that it was for the Lions charity, Frida said that she would be delighted to support the Marlborough & District Lions, and arranged for the pics to be signed and sent over. The CD came from her own collection. The items were mailed across from Sweden in a secure envelope labelled as coming from Benni Andersson’s (Frida’s former husband) recording studio.
“It will be a great fun evening” forecast Debbie Wilson, president of Marlborough & District Lions. “Come wearing fancy dress, be Abba!, have a wonderful time.”
All proceeds will go towards the causes supported by the Marlborough & District Lions. ”Every year we distribute around £15,000 to worthwhile causes, including local individuals, families and groups that have approached us when in need of support” added Debbie.
Tickets are £17 each (and the auction is only open to those attending the event) and can be bought from the White Horse Bookshop or Sound Knowledge, or contact info@marlboroughlionsclub.org.uk to pay by card.
