Students and staff at Pewsey Vale were celebrating another year of excellent GCSE results – there were certainly many, many smiles and only tears of joy when those all-important brown envelopes were opened on Thursday morning (August 21).
All students leaving school had gained passes with 96 per cent gaining at least five GCSEs.
The exam regulator OfQual had warned that after all the changes brought in by the government, this year’s results would show some ‘volatility’ – which could be interpreted as producing some ‘surprises’.
Headteacher Carol Grant did say that some students had done much better than expected and some had done somewhat less well than expected. But she was delighted with the overall level of the results:
“Students and staff have worked tirelessly and I am very proud of their achievements. Their dedication and hard work has paid off and will be an inspiration to our current students.”
Ms Grant singled out attendance levels as key to the exam successes.: “School attendance exceeded 95 per cent this year, which we believe has been crucial to our success.” And she thanked parents for their ‘invaluable support’.
Over 50 per cent of Pewsey School’s students got at least two ‘A’ grades and their vocational BTEC courses had 100 per cent pass rates. All students have secured the college and work placements they wanted.
The school gave particular congratulations to the top students: James Marshall 3A*’s, 7A’s and 1B, Chloe Howe 2A*’s, 7A’s and 3B’s, Jess Ward 1A*, 9A’s and 2B’s, Cam McCloughlin 9A’s, 2 B’s, Ryan Hughes 9A’s 3B’s Dan Eyles 8A’s, 3B’s.
