Marlborough’s traditional Christmas Lights switch-on extravaganza scheduled to be held on Friday November 20 will be cancelled this year due to Covid restrictions. However, there will be a Christmas Street Market held on that day and Marlborough will have Christmas lights.
Wiltshire Council have confirmed that a Christmas Street Market would be acceptable and in line with the normal Wednesday and Saturday market held in the High Street. However, the usual Christmas Lights event which includes amusements, children’s rides, choirs and bands would not adhere to Government Covid guidelines and would encourage large crowds of people to congregate.
The proposed Christmas Market will run all day on Friday November 20, starting at 8/9 am and finishing by 6 pm. The road will remain open to traffic as on normal market days. Stall holders will be required to follow Covid safety regulations.
The Christmas lights will be switched on on Friday November 20 once darkness falls but there will be no published timings for this to prevent crowds gathering.
