A new initiative to offer secondary school students a safe lounge space to go after school to relax and chat with others has been set up in Church Cottage, Silverless Street in Marlborough(next door to St Mary’s Church Hall). The drop-in will be open every Monday during term time and will complement the Youth Centre sessions which run on Friday evenings.
Wiltshire YFC(YouthForChrist) Youth Worker, Steve Dewar, who is setting up the drop-in together with the Local Partnership Support Team, said, “We hope to provide a safe and engaging space where teenagers can go after school, chat with their peers, surrounded by appropriate adults. It is not school and it is not church or religious at all.”
The initiative is supported by the neighbourhood policing team. There will be free food and drinks such as hot chocolate and marsh mallows. There are games consoles and board games on offer.
Steve Dewar has 20yrs+ experience in youth and community work and he is passionate about supporting young people to reach their potential through youth clubs, schools and community projects in Wiltshire.
There are already some volunteers who will be helping Steve to run the drop-in but he is keen to speak to anyone who would like to support this initiative in any way.
