There is no such thing as ‘RBW’, or ‘Robes Before Wicket’ so Mayor Lisa Farrell was probably quite safe from getting bowled out in the warm-up to Wednesday’s annual Mayor’s XI v. Marlborough Cricket Club match at the beautiful setting of the Cricket Club’s Savernake ground.
However, when she actually came to the wicket it was in more conventional attire and she played a key role in the match that raised more than £200 for Fatboy’s Charity, which raises funds throughout the year in order to purchase Christmas presents for children suffering with cancer and leukaemia.
The match itself was more competitive than previous years, with Marlborough Cricket Club narrowly beating the Mayor’s scratch XI by less than 20 runs, having posted 131 in their 20 overs. Mayor Lisa was the star of the show; fielding for a full 20 overs and walking out to open the batting for her team. Unfortunately her innings, without robes, lasted for only two balls… dismissed by the devilish underarm bowling of James Richardson.
The Mayor thanked all those that took part, her team was ably captained by Cllr Mark Cooper and assisted by several excellent volunteers from Marlborough’s adopted 4MI Battalion.
