Marlborough’s Community Fridge has been open now for 10 weeks and has been extremely well received and supported. Situated in the Community Room at Cooper’s Corner in the George Lane carpark, the fridge is currently being stocked from donations from Waitrose, Tesco’s, local businesses and residents.
Clare Harris, Assistant Town Clerk said, “What a brilliant start we have had. We are very lucky to have around 25 very active volunteers who have been just fantastic. They are a friendly, knowledgeable and supportive bunch of people who hit the ground running and they have kept the fridge open and running smoothly since we opened.
We would love to talk to anyone who may wish to support the fridge in any way they can, on whatever scale. If you have an allotment or grow fruit and veg in your garden and cannot consume it all, please drop some down to us and we will share the love.
The fridge concept is all about reducing food waste by stopping perfectly good food from going in the bin. It’s all about sharing the surplus. The fridge is free and open to everyone and anyone. Please help us spread this message.
As from 26th August, we will be tweaking our opening hours to make the most of the food in the fridge and open around the times we seem to have most visitors.
NEW OPENING TIMES as follows:
Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 9am – 12 noon.
We are always keen to welcome new volunteers, even if you can only help once in a while, we would love to have you on board. Volunteers shifts are 1 ½ hours and you will always buddy up with another volunteer.”
