Wiltshire Tennis held its annual awards ceremony last Friday in Chippenham at which the great and the good of Wiltshire Tennis were recognised for their contributions towards the game of tennis and to their clubs. It was a good night for Marlborough Tennis as the club came away with two of the top awards.
Anyone who has ever volunteered at any sports club will know that this can be a thankless task and our local tennis clubs are run by an army of volunteers who work night and day on behalf of their members to see their clubs thrive. So, to be awarded Volunteer of the Year for the whole of Wiltshire Tennis is high praise indeed. The winner was Andrew Payne, the Chair of Marlborough Tennis whose tireless commitment, determination and energy have seen the club go from strength to strength under his leadership.
In the playing category, Neil Watts is known to Marlborough Tennis members as their Head Coach but it is in his other role as Men’s County Captain that he was recognised at the awards ceremony. Neil captained the Mens Team to promotion in both the LTA Winter and Summer County Cups, the second year in succession that such success has been achieved in the Summer event. Neil’s leadership saw the Mens County Team win the award for Team of the Year.
