In July, groups of students from the Reception classes at Marlborough St Mary’s visited Savernake View Care Home and participated in collaborative activities with the residents. There were collaborative drawing and colouring projects, as well as games like Bingo and card games, which were thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and the residents. Rachel Palmer, EYFS Lead at St Mary’s, said, “It was a wonderful community venture and a coming together of two completely different generations.”

“The students eagerly anticipated these visits, and their genuine interactions with their newfound friends were truly heart-warming. Notably, our youngest students had the unique opportunity to converse with some of Marlborough’s most experienced residents, including Pat, who is an impressive 103 years old. Hearing about their lives and experiences was a highlight, bringing smiles and occasionally joyful tears to all involved.”

A spokes-person for Savernake View said, “Our residents really looked forward to spending their time with the children. They enjoyed talking to them about what their usual school day looks like and what extra activities they enjoy doing outside of school.”
Rachel commented, “We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with Savernake View and the wider community as we continue to build meaningful connections and foster respectful relationships.”
