Marlborough St Mary’s pupils, Summer McGrath and her friends, have raised a whopping £500 for the children’s cancer charity Fatboys. The girls sold unwanted toys on Facebook and organised a charity cake sale in school. Every year, Fatboys Charity delivers Christmas gifts to children who are suffering from cancer or other life threatening illnesses with the aim of bringing a smile to their faces.
Jemma Harvey, Summer’s mum, told Marlborough.news, “One of Summer’s school friends was unfortunately diagnosed with leukaemia during the summer holidays. Summer wanted to do something to help but didn’t know what. She decided to sell some of her unwanted toys and made £30 on Facebook. She decided this wasn’t enough so she asked Mrs Schwodler (Head of Marlborough St Mary’s) if she could hold a cake sale at school.
Once agreed Summer tasked friends Lily, Olivia, Georgia, Macie and their mums to help!
On 17th November the girls held their cake sale and made an astonishing £500 which I have today sent over to Fat Boys cancer charity. The girls are incredibly proud of their efforts as are we all.”
