LINK in Marlborough keeps those – who find it difficult to get to the doctors, dentists, shops and anywhere that we all expect to be able to get to – moving.
A volunteer organisation with drivers giving up their time (and mileage) to enable many elderly or less mobile to be able to live a reasonably normal and independent life. LINK is unseen, rarely talked about but for many it is a vital part of their lives. And it relies on those with cars (and a bit of occasional spare time) – i.e. you.
The Marlborough LINK is just one such organisation in Wiltshire, there are other LINK operations (forty one) that provide the same service for their local clientele, and become a (necessary and very welcome) part of their lives. So LINK is not just popular, it is necessary and – in many cases – almost indispensable.
But Marlborough LINK always need more driver volunteers. Just as many of the elderly, lonely and less mobile need transport to get to KAMP, the Leisure Centre, Jubilee Centre, Waitrose or Tesco. Or one of many other places that need to be visited.
Can you help? To find out more, exactly what you would need to do call the Marlborough LINK chair, Hugh de Saram on 01672 288007, or drop him an e-mail at chair@marlboroughlink.org.uk. There are two roles for volunteers – (obviously) drivers, but also co-ordinators, who make all of this activity happen.
How active are LINK? Statistics from last year record nearly 500 KAMP, nearly 260 trips to the Leisure Centre, and not far short of nine hundred journeys to either Savernake or Great Western Hospitals. All important trips, difficult (and near impossible) to arrange if LINK weren’t able to step in and help.
Below is a graphic of what the LINK schemes in Wiltshire have done over 2023. The Marlborough scheme has been at the forefront, successfully and to the benefit (and thanks) of many in and around the town.
