At the suggestion of the Marlborough Brandt Group, Nicholas Sampson, Master of Marlborough College, has commissioned the construction of a special beacon to be lit at the College at 10.26pmon Monday, June 4 as part of the local and nationwide celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The College beacon will join the chain of celebratory fires lit around the Marlborough area: Barbury racecourse, Martinsell Hill, Inkpen and elsewhere.
This beacon will be located on the north face of Granham Hill, directly above the White Horse. Access from the town will be via Granham Close and the footpath which runs parallel with and directly south of the River Kennet.
Anyone wishing to attend the lighting of this beacon should email Ros Longland at the College. The glow of the beacon should be visible from the High Street.
