Janneke Blokland, Betty Dobson, Susan Elks and Juliette Plank of Marlborough Area Poverty Action Group (MAPAG) were presented with a cheque for £500 by the Mayor, Councillor Mervyn Hall in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall earlier today (Friday 6 April).
Marlborough Area Poverty Action Group is a local and independent charitable organisation raising concerns about the lack of provision for the homeless and young children, their overall aim being to help relieve and prevent poverty in the Marlborough area.
This grant award is to help children and their families to participate in activities during the summer and will include a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and also children’s participation in the Camp Activ8 programme at Marlborough Leisure Centre. About thirty five local children and their families will benefit from the project.
The Town Mayor, a keen supporter of activities for young people, said: “The Town Council is delighted to be able to support the important work this group does in providing opportunities for families to enjoy time together and local children to benefit from the great activities offered by Camp Activ8.”
Janneke Blokland said: “We really appreciate the funding from the Town Council towards this project and along with grant funding from the Marlborough Garden Trust and other generous donations, we are going to be able to make it happen.”
