The latest plans for a girls’ boarding house at the gateway to Marlborough will be revealed by the College next week.
Marlborough College unveiled new plans for the 71-bed house at a public exhibition on October 6, promising to listen to comments from the 100 residents who attended the public consultation before drawing up more detailed proposals.
The design team also made a presentation to the town council.
The second public exhibition – featuring updated plans – will take place on Tuesday, November 8 from 3pm to 8pm at The Marlburian Centre.
Peter Bryan, director of corporate resources for Marlborough College said: “We have been encouraged by the feedback received to our first stage of consultation.
“We look forward to showing and discussing our revised plans at the exhibition and hearing what people think before we submit an application.”
Last month, visitors were told to expect a modern building sympathetic to its natural environment and the buildings around it.
Initial plans suggested a horseshoe-shaped design, rather than the long brick wall that a previous design – roundly criticised locally and by Historic England – would have delivered.
Following criticism of the initial plans back in March, Marlborough College appointed a new firm of architects.
Allies & Morrison is a London-based firm of firm renowned for designing new buildings in historic settings. Colleges at Cambridge and a building at the Royal Observatory are among their portfolio.
If granted planning permission, the boarding house will be named Dancy House after former Master, John Dancy, who introduced girls to the College for the first time nearly 50 years ago.
The College hopes the doors to the new facility will open in time for the start of the 2018 school year.
