Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a large scale disorder during the Mop Fair on Saturday night (October 12.)
The disorder happened between 10.30 PM and 11.10 PM in Marlborough High Street and reinforcements doubling the number of police already in the town, had to be called in to deal with running fights between two groups of youths.
Eight young men, aged between 15-19, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. All have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Inspector Mark Thompson said: “The Marlborough Mop fair was robustly policed and the majority of people attending enjoyed themselves and behaved well.”
“There were, however, a small number present who were intent on spoiling the night for others and displayed some appalling behaviour.”
“Incidents of this nature are rare for Marlborough and a police investigation is now well underway with further arrests are likely.”
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
People who have any relevant information are asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
