During the last three weeks Kennet Valley C of E VA Primary School collected over 300 food items which they have donated to Love Marlborough Kids Meals. The school, which organises food collections every Christmas, felt that they should extend their collections during lockdown.
Love Marlborough Kids Meals is a local charity that delivers hot meals to families in need in Marlborough and the surrounding area on a twice weekly basis. Their vision is to provide hot meals to families who need them without any fuss to the family. Families do not need to fill out forms or have a referral to the organisation but can ask for help when needed.
Emma Russell, Headteacher, asked parents to share the appeal across their local communities so that local residents could join in. Several households offered to be drop off points in the villages around the school.
The response was fantastic. Mrs Alexander, a TA and parent at the school, said, “We are all really proud of the school community and the local support for this worthwhile cause. It really showed that during the current lockdown people are keen to help others and to look after each other. As a church school we feel that we must try to find ways for our children to help and support their local community as much as they can.”
Emma Russell commented, “It is essential that all of the pupils at the school learn the importance of helping others, not just during the current pandemic but for the long term. We always encourage our community to support and care for those around them and those in the wider world. I am incredibly proud of all of the Kennet Valley School community and am enormously grateful to everyone who helped with this collection.”
Love Marlborough Kids Meals said, “An enormous thank you to you, all your staff and pupils at Kennet Valley School and to everyone in your community for so kindly donating all of this much needed food to Love Marlborough Kids Meals. We can continue to share your love by cooking and delivering tasty hot meals to any families who need them in these difficult times. Thank you all.”
