We’ve just found out that the High Street is the next target for the Giga contractors to dig up in their pursuit of full fibre installation in Marlborough. Starting on 30 October, Monday next week. How long has this been planned for? No idea, but it’s now showing on the ‘one.network’ system as relatively minor works with ‘delays unlikely’ (see above pic for showing planned works across next twelve months).
We hope that the description is accurate, that there won’t be delays and disruption but the experiences of such works across the past year and a bit brings this into question.
Apparently they won’t be working (carrying out excavation works) on market days. So Saturdays and Wednesdays may be clear.
How long will this all take? Stated until 10 November. But we understand that a three week period will be more likely. What will be the disruption? As far as we can ascertain it will be a ‘rolling suspension’ of parking bays, on the South side of the High Street. Maybe 5-6 bays being out of action at any one time.
This phase of the works is to ‘bring Gigaclear ultrafast full fibre broadband to the business and properties on Marlborough High Street’. So what about the business and properties on the North side of the High Street? Maybe we will find out, at some point, but nothing showing as planned at present.
Let’s hope that this phase of disruption isn’t as bad or invasive as what we’ve been through over the past year or so.
