Gerald Isaaman, one of Marlborough News Online’s founding partners – indeed its originator, has left the website. He resigned from Marlborough News Online earlier this month and ends his association today (July 31).
Soon after Gerald and his wife moved to Marlborough, he decided the town needed not just a new voice but a voice of its own. His vision was to provide what he termed ‘glue’ for the people of the town and its area.
During his long and very successful career in London journalism, Gerald Isaaman was greatly respected and much honoured. He joined the Hampstead and Highgate Express in 1973 and was its editor for 25 years.
He turned it into the ‘Ham and High’ – a local newspaper that was far from local in content, views and reputation, but was always strenuously involved in the life and controversies of the community. He retired from the paper in 1994 and was awarded an OBE. He also served on the Press Complaints Commission.
We would like to thank Gerald for his work in starting Marlborough News Online and getting it settled into its way of reporting and informing all the Marlborough area.
Marlborough News Online began life in April 2011 and its readership and content have grown considerably with currently well over 3,000 different people visiting the site every week. The team will carry on reporting and informing our readers – and in mid-September there will be some additional features and a refreshed look.
