General Election: Claire Perry increases her majority again – as Labour vote surges

 

We have a hung Parliament.  And up and down the land we have politicians being hung out to dry.  

 

But voters in the the Devizes Constituency have scored two headline worthy results in this extraordinary general election. 

 

Claire Perry not only retained her Parliamentary seat, but increased her vote by a dramatic five per cent on her 2015 result.   And Labour moved into second place as the UKIP vote collapsed disastrously.

 

In the 2015 general election – formerly known as ‘the recent election’ – Claire Perry polled 28,295 votes – taking 57.7 per cent of votes cast, an increase of 2.7 per cent on her 2010 vote. UKIP was in second place with 7,544. 

 

Labour took third place in 2015 with 6.360 votes.  The Lib Dem candidate was fourth, with the Green Party candidate in last place.

 

For the 2017 general election of June 8 – otherwise, perhaps, known as 2017’s first general election – the results for the Devizes constituency are:

 

•    Claire Perry (Cons)             31,744       62.7 per cent        + 5 per cent 
•    Imtiyaz Shaikh  (Lab)          10,608       21 per cent           + 8 per cent 
•    Chris Coleman (LibDem)      4,706         9.3 per cent        + 1.2 per cent
•    Timothy Page (UKIP)            1,706         3.4 per cent        -  12 per cent
•    Emma Dawnay (Green)        1,606         3.2 per cent        –   2.6 per cent 
•    Jim Gunter (Wessex Regionalists)  223     0.4 per cent    +   0.4 per cent
