This coming weekend, between Friday evening and Sunday ‘Marlborough Festival’ will be taking place in a range of venues across the centre of the town.
Billed by organisers as ‘a brand new three day event’, the inaugural Festival will deliver music, food, theatre, comedy, puppets and even a ‘Big Dog Walk’ on the Sunday morning starting and finishing on The Common. (We assume that small dogs can be walked as well…..).
It all kicks off in the Town Hall on Friday evening with a Comedy Night. Then on Saturday, music in the ‘Castle & Ball Stage’ (in the car park, behind the hotel) where Freddie Lewis, Suzie Mills and Rachel Jane will be performing, and during the afternoon in Priory Gardens a performance of The Tempest. The advance weather forecast looks OK at this stage, but there are contingency plans to re-stage in the Town Hall if the clouds get dark, wind gets up and rain appears….. But that could be appropriate for the opening Act of ‘The Tempest’?
Later on Saturday Masterchef finalist Thomas Frake will be cooking up a storm in La Bobina, in the narrow part of the High Street by St Peter’s and during the afternoon there will be a Puppetry talk and performance in the first floor ‘Panelled Room’ of The Merchant’s House.
On the Sunday the highlight will be the Huey Morgan (Fun Lovin’ Criminal) Live Band in The Memorial Hall at The College. And supported by The Red Stripe Band, regular favourites at the Jazz Festival of years ago coming back to play Marlborough. An excellent large venue, now with superb acoustics since the complete refit of a few years ago.
Elsewhere on Sunday DJ Robin 12Tree will be on the Castle & Ball Stage, and more Puppet appearances in the Panelled room of The Merchant’s House.
There will also be a series of free Intel workshops. covering kids (privacy), AI (for teens!) and importantly online privacy and safety for the elderly. Schedule below:
