Godots Bar in Kingsbury Street will host a final exhibition and sale of Karon Staniland’s work this coming Sunday, 9 October.
Karon, one of the ‘Marlborough People’ featured in the Millennium Book of that name has become revered and respected as an artist working out of her Silverless Street studio. But particularly so as a teacher who over fifty years has inspired generations of students of all ages, children and adults, to develop and use talents that they never recognised even existed.
“I love to teach.” That was her defining statement to the author of ‘Marlborough People’ back at the turn of the millennium. Many who have experienced her guidance and encouragement over the decades will certainly vouch for that.
Marlborough artist and tutor Bill Mather remembers her as “terribly generous and very encouraging with praise”. Adjacent is a sketch Bill drew of Karon years ago whilst she was teaching Bill and a class at The White Horse Bookshop.
The exhibition opens art 11am on Sunday (9 October) at Godots Bar, 7 Kingsbury Street, and Karon will be present to sign any of her paintings that have not already been signed.
