More than 20 Special Constables will be presented with medals and certificates at the annual Wiltshire Police Special Constabulary awards ceremony in Marlborough on Saturday, November 10.
Guests of honour at the event, which will be held at Theatre on the Hill at St John’s Academy, are expected to include the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Richard Handover, the Under Sherriff, Lady Sarah Gooch and the chairman of the Swindon Magistrates’ Bench, Martyn Cook. One hundred and fifty people are expected to attend.
Certificates of independent patrol will be awarded by the Chief Constable, Patrick Geenty, to ten officers who have demonstrated their capability in more than 30 areas of policing within their first two years training.
Two Specials will receive a long service medal from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and one Special will receive a bar to the long service medal for completing 19 years’ service.
Special recognition will be given to those who put in extra duties during the Queen’s Jubilee and Olympics.
The Special Constabulary Chief Officer, Richard Palusinski, said: “As a Special, I am very aware of the amount of effort and commitment that Special Constables show in giving their time freely and for no pay.
“They take the same risks as their regular colleagues working on the frontline to protect the public.
“Special Constables contributed almost 40,000 front line hours in the past year, which in monetary terms is worth in excess of £1m and makes a real contribution to the Force vision to make this the safest county in the country.
“This awards ceremony provides us with an opportunity to recognise and reward the excellent work and dedication of our Wiltshire Specials.”
