On Friday 21 June staff at Coombe End Court in Marlborough turned the in-house Café named as Kaspers café into Kaspers Night Club for a one night only event. Home Manager, Kelly Edwards, organised the event after Alan, a resident at Coombe End Court, approached her on behalf of the resident committee. The committee requested an event to be organised that was fun, exciting and entertaining and one that had never been done before. Once Kelly had had the idea of a night club there was plenty of excitement and enthusiasm for this to go ahead.
The café was transformed into a bar, with a dance floor, disco ball and lights. There were cocktails, mocktails and beer. Two carers Milton and Marie added to the authenticity by dressing as bouncers and stamping the hands of those who attended.
Kelly told Marlborough.news, “Alan is a big Top Gun fan and dressed up as Maverick whilst Sarah, a carer, dressed up as Goose. Alan wanted to see star guest appearances and invited me to dress up as Micheal Jackson and Michelle, Head of Care, as Dolly Parton. Music from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s was played throughout the three-hour event. Alan said he had the best night he has had for a long time. There was a 4 week lead up to the event and Alan and the other residents were getting excited as each day passed. They couldn’t believe it was really going to happen.”
Richard, a resident, said, “I had so much fun dancing to the music.” Other comments included: “It was the best surprise I have seen and I really enjoyed the food, drinks, and music.” And “I never thought I would ever be in a nightclub; I had forgotten how much fun they were.”
The residents and staff had so much fun that many have requested a second night club event. Only this time they want it bigger and better with the event being open to the residents’ relatives so they too can enjoy the fun with their loved ones.
Coombe End Court is a residential care home that cares for up to 60 residents specialising in elderly residential and dementia care.
