Marlborough Community Orchard is launching an art competition open to all amateurs to celebrate Marlborough Apple Day 2012.
Sponsored by Sheepdrove Organic Farm, the aim is for all those with talent to create an apple-related exhibit in celebration of apples – and orchards – in all their many guises.
The competition is open to everyone either living, working or studying in the Marlborough area, entry forms being available from White Horse Bookshop, Marlborough Photo, Quality Stationers, Kitchenmonger, Kit Stone and St John’s School reception.
There are three age categories: 11 and under, 12-16, and adult 17 and over. Entry is £1 and is free for students, with a closing date set for noon on Saturday 15 September.
Judges include local artist Delli Lycett Green, Juliet and Peter Kindersley of Sheepdrove Organic Farm — the sponsors who met at art school and founded the publishing company Dorling Kindersley publishers – and art department representatives from both Marlborough College and St John’s.
“Last year’s photo competition was a real success and the winning photos are hanging in pride of place in the Waitrose café,” Philippa Davenport, the Apple Day founder told Marlborough News Online. “We hope to build on this creative concept and for some really original paintings and drawings.”
The winners will be announced on Marlborough Apple Day on Sunday 14 October, which will take place at Marlborough town hall.
