At Monday (22 January) evening’s meeting of the full Town Council Councillors voted in favour for Kym-Marie Cleasby to be the Mayor of Marlborough for the coming year, commencing on 13 May.
Kym-Marie has been a Councillor for quite a few years and Deputy Mayor to Nick Fogg since May of last year. Whilst it would be unusual for one year’s Deputy not to become next year’s Mayor, it’s not ‘a given’ and her Mayoral role next year – 2024-25 – was confirmed at Monday’s meeting.
What does Kym-Marie do away from her Council activity? Kym-Marie’s background is business. Now she runs SBC, once ‘Sue Brady Catering’, Marlborough’s specialist catering business that also creates and serves the dinners for very many of the schools around the area. Eighteen at the last count. A vitally important business that ensures that all the children of those schools get a proper mid-day lunch. Also, and from the SBC kitchens up in the Business Park, Kym-Marie, with Catherine Williams and her team run ‘Love Kids Meal‘, Marlborough’s organisation that brings meals to families who need a hot dinner.
So Marlborough’s Mayor next year will be Kym-Marie. Plenty planned for her year. There are moves to bring a Civil War re-enactment back to The Common which, if possible, has been agreed by Councillors (subject of course to budget). Always a high profile and enjoyable event for all concerned – participants and audience. If this goes ahead, dates still need to be confirmed. Other events for the Summer include two festivals in June – the Parade Festival over the weekend of 15/16 June followed by everyone’s favourite – MantonFest on 29 June. And then of course after the Summer holidays have ended there is LitFest ’24 on 26-29 September. A busy and active year, even beyond the Council chamber.
