Yesterday, Chris Barnes from Ogbourne St Andrew, celebrated his 100th Marlborough Park Run. Despite the driving rain and wind Chris, his friends and family celebrated with a cake from Sweet Cake of Mine, Marlborough bespoke cake makers. The celebration was shared with his friend Katherine Price who recently completed her 50th Park Run. In a few weeks’ time Chris will run the London Marathon in aid of of Macmillan’s Cancer Support.
Chris, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in early March, said, “Instead of sitting at home feeling sorry for myself I immediately sourced and secured a last minute charity place in aid of Macmillan’s Cancer Support for this year’s London Marathon. In under 3 weeks I have already raised more than £6,500 and with 4 weeks to go I’m looking forward to the challenge of running my first London Marathon, following a virtual marathon 2 years ago.”
Writing in his blog on his fundraising page Chris commented, “Thank you for your overwhelming support; we’ve amazingly now raised more than £6500 for Macmillan! It’s been a week full of milestones: my 60th birthday, the first meeting with my oncologist, my 100th Park Run and I baked my first ever loaf of bread.
Training continues regardless of the weather – a special shout out to my running friends who brave the elements with me. Thanks also to my nearest and dearest Liz for organising the park party and Phoebe & Chester for joining me on today’s wet and windy Park Run.
PS. Guys, get your prostates checked!”
