Claire Witts is raising money and awareness of the UK charity PSPA by holding a coffee morning at Marlborough’s Jubilee Centre from 9.30 am to 12.30pm on Saturday September 10. There will be hot drinks and delicious home-baked cakes on offer for a minimum donation of £4 per person. All proceeds will be donated to PSPA (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration). There is currently no treatment for these rare, progressive and life-limiting diseases and PSPA is the only UK charity that supports people suffering from them. More information can be found on the charity website here.
As well as the fundraising coffee morning Claire is also raising money for PSPA by running the London Marathon on October 2nd. Claire’s father, Air Commodore Jerry Witts, died in June 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Corticobasel Degeneration(CBD) – see Obituary here. Claire told Marlborough.news, “I’m hoping to boost funds and raise awareness of the PSPA charity that provides emotional and practical support to people living with these conditions and funds ground-breaking research into potential treatments and ultimately a cure. When he was still able Dad was very motivated to engage in PSPA’s research programmes. So please help me to honour his memory and to support PSPA’s vision of a world free of PSPA and CBD. Come along to the coffee morning or sponsor me to run the London Marathon on my Justgiving page here.”
Claire also hopes that the coffee morning on September 10 will raise awareness of the Jubilee Centre where she is a volunteer. “It’s also a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering at the Jubilee Centre or attending Day Care or drop-in lunch days to come along and take a look around. Anne Hancock, the Manager of the Jubilee Centre, will be on hand to answer any enquiries. The Jubilee Centre has lost a lot of funding recently and needs the support of our community.”
The Jubilee Centre currently offers Meals on Wheels 5 days a week, Day Care with transport 3 days a week and a drop-in 3 course lunch for £12 on Thursdays. There are spaces for more customers and more volunteers. For more information contact the Jubilee Centre Manager, Anne Hancock, on thejubileecentre@aol.com or phone 01672 513087
