Marlborough was announced this week as one of the seventy finalist towns vying to win the UK’s largest community gardening competition
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) revealed the list of towns to compete in the 56th year of ‘Britain in Bloom’, naming Marlborough along with Bath, Exmouth, Sidmouth and St Austell as the representatives from the South West region of the UK.
Each of the seventy towns will be visited by a pair of RHS judges in August as they vie for a medal, a category win and to be named Champion of Champions.
Marlborough Town Council is leading this years’ entries into both the RHS South West in Bloom and the National Britain in Bloom Competition, working with members of Marlborough in Bloom committee and community volunteers to ensure Marlborough is looking its best for the judges and residents alike. Plans are well underway to make 2020 the best possible entry for the town. “We are aiming high” said Town Mayor, Mervyn Hall.
“This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity for Marlborough. It is going to be a challenge, but we have a proactive, experienced team here at the Town Council who are full of ideas and keen to put Marlborough on the map, showcasing the town at its best for the benefit of all who live, work and visit throughout the year. We can do this!” he added.
There is always a call for volunteers to help make Marlborough succeed in this prestigious competition.
