Buggybabes, the brainchild of Dominique Oughton, is an exercise class for new mums. When Dominique, who is a Senior Sports Consultant with Wiltshire and Swindon Sport, wanted to get fit after giving birth to son Noah, she couldn’t find what she was looking for in the local area. So she decided to start her own back to fitness class specifically aimed at new mums.
Dominique told marlborough.news, “I decided to set up Buggybabes and get fit myself in the process. It’s so difficult with a newborn to find the opportunity and time. I started the class when Noah was 8 to 10 weeks old and he’s now 18 months.”
“We start with a warm-up with squats, arm dips and lunges and move to another circuit of exercises on the logs. There is about a mile loop of walking interspersed with different fitness routines. We go ahead in all weathers, even in the rain, although I would cancel if conditions are really extreme! Participants sign up for a 6 week block. It is also an opportunity to network and go for a coffee afterwards if you wish.”
Lucy Humphries, who has a four month old baby described what she likes about the class, “I like getting outside and doing exercise. You don’t feel too pressured and if you are just recovering from giving birth you can do as little or as much as you like. You can even stop to feed the baby if you need to. It’s a nice bunch of girls.”
Sally Bevan agrees, “It’s a really friendly group, a nice location and it’s a way to meet new people. We also have socials!”
Buggybabes lasts for an hour and runs on Monday mornings at 9.30am in the Savernake Forest, Marlborough and on Tuesday mornings at 10 am in Pewsey. Cost is £30 for 6 weeks. Dominique says, ‘”Although the classes have really taken off, there are spaces available for more mums and their babies to join.”
