On Friday 25 November, the North Wessex Downs Annual forum will be held at Marlborough Golf Club on The Common to mark the area’s fiftieth anniversary of its designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and as such protected by law for the nation.
Starting at 1.30pm the Forum will hear from range of speakers including The Rt Hon Lord Benyon, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Nicola Chester, local writer and author of On Gallows Down. Place, Protest and Belonging (for which she won the Richard Jefferies Prize for Nature Writing in 2021), and Professor Tom Oliver from the University of Reading where he leads the Ecology and Evolution research group.
The Forum will be followed by a reception to celebrate the anniversary. If the weather holds, Marlborough astronomer Gavin James will be there to help with a bit of stargazing.
Tickets to the forum and Reception are priced at £10 and can be accessed from the North Wessex Downs website by clicking here.
