Rumours are circulating that Wiltshire Council is reduce from 18 to 10 the number of street cleaners it uses in Marlborough and that the High Street will be cleaned only once a week and not once every day in future.
Marlborough’s Mayor, Councillor Guy Loosmore, revealed this at the Town Council meeting last night (Monday) and posed the question of what exactly was happening with Wiltshire Council’s latest austerity cuts.
Councillor Stewart Dobson, one of Marlborough’s two county councillors, replied that he
intended to ask questions at to discover exactly an answer to the situation.
“I shall report back to the next meeting of the council,” he said.
Councillor Bryan Castle also asked for him to investigate the fact that Wiltshire Council staff were now putting down the yellow bollards for the Wednesday markets days in advance.
“So on Monday you get the bollards going down for Wednesday and on Thursday ditto for Saturday’s market. It’s not on.”
Earlier, Councillor Dobson had reported on progress to replace paving stones in the High Street with new stones rather than asphalt.
